John Alexander

CEO

I am a non-profit leader with 13+ years of public sector and non-profit management experience. My core strengths are strategy-building, operations management, business/fund development, partnership development (domestic and international,) negotiations, coaching and mentoring, and communications. I strongly believe in collaborative problem-solving. My wonderful wife and I are the parents of two beautiful children, and I enjoy watching sports, playing soccer, and traveling in my downtime. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve our amazing volunteers, and am thankful to the SARAB Board of Directors for continuing to put their trust in me.

I have been a search and rescue member since 2009, serving in three provinces. I am a Team Leader, SAR Trainer, and I’ve spent several years as a Training Coordinator. I have been married to my wife for 19 years and currently live in Red Deer with our teenage daughter and our beagle, Copper. We love the outdoors and when not at work, I can usually be found hiking, biking, and paddling in the mountains. I spent the past three years as a first responder instructor and was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 12 years before that. I am very passionate about SAR training and very much look forward to moving our training program forward.

I am a proud member of Greenview Search and Rescue and have been for nearly eight years. I am a Team Lead, newly certified Search Manager and one of our in-house SAR Basics instructors. I am married to my wonderful wife Christin and we have four daughters (yes four!) from 10-15 years old. I have been self-employed working as a carpenter for the last seven years and was an insulator in the oilfield for 14 years before that. Most of our family loves to hike and get outdoors whenever we have the chance. I look forward to working with all the teams. I’m here to help you and take our organization into the future.

I am honoured to have been, and to continue to be, a Member of Cochrane Search & Rescue since 2011. SAR has always been a passion of mine and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve SAR in Alberta and our communities through the role of Manager, Search & Rescue Operations. Being a member of the incredible CSAR has taught me a great many things; the most important of which is the power of the family shared within SAR. My teammates know the best and worst of me and I am continually humbled as we stand shoulder-to-shoulder in our SAR, personal and family careers. I truly hope that you share this within your own team. For me, I am often found wandering the woods with my best friend Harper (retired SAR dog) somewhere between Sundre and Cochrane. Other times I can be found with my amazing chosen-family from CSAR.
