Fellow backcountry users, and especially sledders, we have a request.
In numerous recent rescues where we have responded by helicopter it has been a challenge for us to identify the party in distress. The nature of emergency calls is that we are generally responding with incomplete information, whether it be precise location, # of subjects, what the party are wearing, or even the exact nature of the emergency.
As such, when we spot a group in the general area of the reported incident we must spend time assessing from the air whether this is the group requiring assistance.
Our request is to make use of the standard visual signals for communicating with a helicopter as this will allow to get to where help is needed faster.
